OPI Instinct of Color

OPI Announces Brand’s First International Short Film

OPI pays hommage to its Culture of Color with the international launch of its first branded film. Set to the French DJ band C2C’s “Down the Road,” the video features a surrealistic dance-off between four female dancers and a gorgeous Thoroughbred, as trained by equestrian stuntmaster Mario Luraschi.
Named after OPI’s classic black nail lacquer, Lady in Black (known as Black Onyx in North America) brought to the film a repetoire of moves including tap steps and dancing en pointe, while showcasing bestselling OPI colors on her hooves.
The film’s four featured lacquers – Pink-ing of YouRed My Fortune CookieNeed Sunglasses? and No Room for the Blues – each represent one style of dance and one overarching theme, illustrating OPI nail lacquer as a means of self-expression.
“I always say that nail lacquer can change your look – and your outlook,” explains Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI Executive VP and Artistic Director. “Today, nail color can convey feelings and emotions, expressing on the outside what the wearer is feeling on the inside. In this short film, four women communicate through dance and color. With a trained Thoroughbred who could replicate the dancers’ moves with very little digital enhancement,  we were able to capture the unique, energetic and creative culture that epitomizes the OPI brand.”
The video launches worldwide on October 24, 2012. Please visit OPI on YouTube to view!

How cute is this video?!  Although I have to admit, I'm such a sucker for all things dance-related.  Many MANY moons ago, I used to dance (Graham technique was my THANG), even was a dance major in college for awhile...  Now I wasn't like the girls you see on Dance Moms, I started dancing really late... like I was 16 years old when I started.  And me being me, I insisted on starting with modern dance and then ballet.  It was such a freeing feeling being in the studio, you know? Come to think of it, dance was actually one way for me to get involved with makeup, I was always the one running around doing my makeup and others for performances.  Although my teachers would be pissed if I wore nail polish for a performance...

What did you think of this video?  Which one was you favorite? (I couldn't pick one!)

Let's get social!

  1. This is an awesome video! I love it. The music is really great, too. And I think for a favourite, I have to pick tap dance. I did tap and ballet when I was younger, but always loved tap better. I guess I like making noise! Haha. :D

    1. I know what you mean, I never took tap but I took flamenco - just as noisy! I agree, this video is really well done; I can't believe they were able to train the horse so well!

    1. You should definitely think about trying it! Most studios offer a adult beginners ballet, let the ballerina out!!!
